The Department of Chinese Studies is different from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature in that it makes students understand general details of Chinese culture by learning Chinese politics, economy, philosophy, religions, fine arts, music, anthropology, and geopolitics widely focusing on Chinese sentence words and furthermore, do China and Chinese people.
Therefore, the Department of Sinology makes students learn various subjects widely and professionally by opening them and make efforts to get them to be sound intellectuals who can lead the development of the upcoming relationship between Korea and China based on this. Especially, it has implemented local education in China to sophomores in each semester and the exchange of exchange students with sister universities every semester to improve their linguistic ability and experience local areas. And it gets students to obtain secondary teaching licenses by completing the designated teaching profession subjects in the undergraduate course for the students who hope to be teachers after the graduation as the curriculum for teaching profession was newly established.
 

Goals of the Department of Chinese Studies are to foster local experts with comprehensive knowledge and expertise about China as the local department to learn China widely. Now, the Department of Chinese Studies makes students learn its studies widely and professionally by opening school subjects in various fields and makes efforts to get them to be sound intellectuals who can lead the development of the relationship between Korea and China based on this. It provides the learning and living environments in a Chinese university for a year by operating the unique department called Hallym University in China to improve those human resources' quality. It makes assurance doubly sure to make 'local classes in China' or programs including 'exchange students in China', 'local internship in China', etc. for the students who study from the second semester of sophomores get the best effects in local universities of China through concentrated language education during three semesters from freshmen to the 1st semester of sophomores as the preparation process for university life and language learning in China. In addition, it introduced the method to operate the department called China Life in Hallym University that students can live with Chinese students in Chinese for 24 hours to make them experience Chinese living even in Korea. And the Department of Chinese Studies adjusts the curriculum to make overall and integrated learning related to China possible through the learning process that students can embrace Chinese history, culture, politics, and economy in the organic cooperation relationship among schools, professors, and students. 
This curriculum has continued to be adjusted to provide optimal educational environments for students based on general requirements of students, school parents, and professors in the department, the university, and society. The department does its best to foster talented persons who can actively respond to the deepening competitive society. 

After Korea and China formed official ties in 1992, there has been the closer relationship between the both countries so that social demands for experts about Chinese matters can explosively increase. Accordingly, the students who major in Chinese Studies have actively gone into various fields of society. Career after the graduation can largely be divided into going to graduate school and getting jobs. For going to graduate school, there are overseas graduate schools including China and Taiwan and Korean graduate schools including simultaneous interpretation graduate schools, general graduate schools, special graduate schools that foster international experts.

The students who graduated from this department have studied academically and in depth by selecting their own fields of interests based on what they study in the undergraduate department. 

Meanwhile, opportunities for getting jobs are widely opened. The students who learned Chinese skills have been very active in government branches (The Department of Foreign Affairs, the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and international exchange teams in each city and provincial government building), airlines, shipping companies, exporting companies, broadcasting companies, publishers, advertising agencies, and hotels by going into them. There are graduates who are active as free lancers as they become Chinese instructors, interpreters, sightseeing guides, and professional translators.
