Dept. of Politics & Public Administration

Dept. of Politics and Public Administration

Establishing a criterion for education through passion and conviction

About the department

The Department of Politics and Public Administration was newly established as the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy was reorganized on September 1st, 2006. It supports students' entry into various fields in society by operating the existing politics, international politics, and studies on public administration comprehensively and providing multidirectional academic and practical learning opportunities.
Most of the departments of administration in the most universities properly mix various academic fields including political curriculums, economy, and management or do not have the programs that provide wide knowledge and views of Korean administrators if the 21st century by making students redundantly study only subjects in public administration at narrow and technological levels for 4 years regardless of actual students' entry into public offices.
In contrast, the Department of Politics and Public Administration, Hallym University operates the curriculum that provides wide social and humanistic views and multidirectional expert knowledge as the virtues of talented persons in the Korean administrative and political fields politicized and internationalized after democratization with the practical curriculum including subjects essential for students' entry into public offices.
For this, the curriculum of the Department of Politics and Public Administration was designed to provide politics as the generic concept of administration, diplomacy as extension, and education about an international order escaping from those of the existing simple and biased departments of public administration that consist of unnecessary and overlapped public administration subjects for students with essential public administration education.
And the department implements the system that recognizes the relevant subjects provided by other departments in Hallym University as our department's major credits widely to supplement the integral curriculum of Politics and Public Administration.
As the department recognizes the credits of the total 12 subjects that are beneficial to make students prepare the tests for their entry into public offices including the subjects opened in the Department of Law and Administration, the College of Business Administration, the Society College, the Department of Sociology, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Department of Philosophy and History, the College of Humanities as the credits of the Department of Politics and Public Administration, it aims at 'the opened department' that recommends and support students' needs and the diversity of objectives.

Future career
The curriculum of the Department of Politics and Public Administration concentrates on developing graduates' ability to be active in the largely four fields of politics, administration, diplomacy, and the press. Students can enter public offices including politicians, administrators, and diplomats. To support this, it provides the curriculum that can be helpful for civil service examinations including the civil service examination, the Foreign Service Examination, general administrative officials in the central and local areas, and foreign services. The purpose of the Department of Politics and Public Administration is to provide the curriculum necessary for developing basic knowledge and refinement that students should have as
politicians, administrators, and diplomats in this society when they enter public offices.

And the curriculum of the Department of Politics and Public Administration will be very helpful for making students enter society as journalists after graduation. University education required for journalists is not learning about the press itself. Journalists need in-depth knowledge about the domain of expertise. The core role that the press plays in this society is observation, surveillance, and criticism about foreign relations including politics, administration, and a matter of reunion. Therefore, it is very natural that major fields of study in universities of journalists who lead politics, administration, and diplomatic fields, the major report areas of the Korean major mass media are the Department of Politics and Diplomacy and administrative fields. Graudates from the Department of Politics and Public Administration can be active as scholars and teachers by entering graduate schools in the political, administrative, and diplomatic fields. As the master and doctor's courses are opened in this university, students can enter the graduate school of this university and study them in foreign graduate schools' courses including Korean other universities, U.S., Japan, and China.

Like this, the future that graduates from the Department of Politics and Public Administration primarily recommend plays a role of making a contribution to society and suggesting vision in politics, administration, diplomacy, the press, and the academic fields. The Department of Politics and Public Administration will do its best to make the students realize their dreams and lead their campus life
