Hallym University and Hallym University Medical Center established the Hallym AI Convergence Research Institute and Medical Artificial Intelligence Center under the Medical Center in 2019 to have the infrastructure for systematic artificial intelligence research and application.

In addition, by establishing a network of industry-academia-government cooperation for comprehensive cooperation with information and communication/artificial intelligence companies such as SK C&C, and public institutions such as the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, we support field-oriented education courses and career search activities.

The newly formed Artificial Intelligence Convergence major will accept its first intake of 60 students in spring 2021. It will focus on AI in Healthcare and will offer its students differentiated learning in the field of AI Support Learning Programs (ALEKS).

In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, AI is the core technology of advanced science in all fields. In particular, AI is a promising field in future medical services.

Hallym University has developed its new curriculum with the goal of developing flexible cutting edge programs, which best suit individual students’ needs.

The curriculum is largely composed of exploration, core, and application stages.

In the exploration stage, students experience artificial intelligence and discover their possibilities, and in the core stage, they take courses related to mathematics, statistics and artificial intelligence, and in the application stage, they directly develop and apply artificial intelligence. Through this curriculum, students participate in education and field trips.

In addition, Hallym University's 'double major' system will be applied, which will help students grow into 'personnel who best utilize artificial intelligence' by majoring in artificial intelligence convergence and other related fields.

Professor Yong-Jun Choi, Chairman of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence Convergence said, “The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence Convergence is the only high-tech major established among universities in Gangwon-do to cultivate global talents suitable for the era of the 4th industrial revolution. "We are preparing to be competitive as Korea's top-level artificial intelligence experts with differentiated educational courses."
He added, “With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of the medical field is growing more than ever, so it is necessary to cultivate medical artificial intelligence talents in fields with high demand, such as chronic disease management and health promotion, as well as in difficult fields such as cancer patient care.”

In that sense, the opening of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence at Hallym University, which has a large hospital foundation, is significant.

Hallym University Medical Center, which has the highest level of proficiency and infrastructure in the domestic medical field, and Hallym University, which has a growing global presence, have already established the Hallym AI Convergence Research Institute and the Medical Artificial Intelligence Center under the Medical Center in 2019, and are equipped with infrastructure for systematic artificial intelligence research and application.

Since then, after receiving the quota for admission to the new undergraduate school from the Ministry of Education in April this year, the 'Artificial Intelligence Convergence Faculty Preparatory Committee' has been formed to prepare for the opening of the major.

In order to support field-centered curriculum and career activities, a network of industry-academia-government cooperation has also been established for comprehensive cooperation with public institutions such as information communication and artificial intelligence companies such as SK C&C, and the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.
