Dept. of Biomedical Science

Establishing a criterion for education through passion and conviction

About the department

Life science and biotechnology that is recently and brilliantly developing are the Korean major strategic industry to take a leap in the 21st century. And they are the high-tech core studies with tremendous potential that is internationally in the spotlight. The research results related to cloned animals and stem cells have made people interested in the biomedical science field and brought about innovative development.
The Department of Biomedical Science tries to foster excellent talented persons with expertise in the fields of life science, biotechnology, and biomedical science that are rapidly developing and develop the creative research capabilities through the intensive tests and joint industrial and academic studies.  Students learn the basic principle of life through the subjects of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, and virology and the application of them to the applied fields of life science, Medicine and Pharmacy, and agricultural science through major subjects based on them. Students can learn purification technology of organic materials through all kinds of experiments, genes' recombination and analysis technology, culture technology of higher organisms' cells and microorganisms, transgenic organisms' manufacturing technology, and development technology of human bodies' diagnosis and treatment methods. The department's goals are to produce human resources who can actively and originatively conduct studies and development in the relevant fields after graduation by practicing theories and experiments in equilibrium.

Prospects and career

For in-depth studies of the major fields of study, students can enter graduate schools majoring in the biomedical fields, study abroad, or getting jobs (National research institutes, university research institutes, business research institutes, university laboratories, hospital laboratories, life science companies, pharmaceutical companies, food companies, life science research instrument companies, etc.), or medical graduate schools by applying for the Medical Education Eligibility Test (MEET).
