Establishing a criterion for education through passion and conviction
About the department
The Department of Politics and Public Administration was newly established as the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy was reorganized on September 1st, 2006. It supports students' entry into various fields in society by operating the existing politics, international politics, and studies on public administration comprehensively and providing multidirectional academic and practical learning opportunities.
Most of the departments of administration in the most universities properly mix various academic fields including political curriculums, economy, and management or do not have the programs that provide wide knowledge and views of Korean administrators if the 21st century by making students redundantly study only subjects in public administration at narrow and technological levels for 4 years regardless of actual students' entry into public offices.
In contrast, the Department of Politics and Public Administration, Hallym University operates the curriculum that provides wide social and humanistic views and multidirectional expert knowledge as the virtues of talented persons in the Korean administrative and political fields politicized and internationalized after democratization with the practical curriculum including subjects essential for students' entry into public offices.
For this, the curriculum of the Department of Politics and Public Administration was designed to provide politics as the generic concept of administration, diplomacy as extension, and education about an international order escaping from those of the existing simple and biased departments of public administration that consist of unnecessary and overlapped public administration subjects for students with essential public administration education.
And the department implements the system that recognizes the relevant subjects provided by other departments in Hallym University as our department's major credits widely to supplement the integral curriculum of Politics and Public Administration.
As the department recognizes the credits of the total 12 subjects that are beneficial to make students prepare the tests for their entry into public offices including the subjects opened in the Department of Law and Administration, the College of Business Administration, the Society College, the Department of Sociology, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Department of Philosophy and History, the College of Humanities as the credits of the Department of Politics and Public Administration, it aims at 'the opened department' that recommends and support students' needs and the diversity of objectives.
