The research team of Prof. NIMSE SATISH & Prof.  LEE WOO RAM has developed a 'smart nano-medicine platform' to kill cancer cells.

A research team led by Professor NIMSE SATISH and  Professor LEE WOO RAM of Hallym University's Department of Chemistry has developed a 'smart nano-medicine platform' that enables cancer cell-specific drug delivery, providing a new solution to overcome structural limitations in the development of existing anticancer drugs.

The research team has demonstrated an innovative way to address a major challenge in drug discovery, and a new way to turn the problem of small molecule aggregation into a solution for developing functional drug delivery platforms.

The research team designed a system that exploits nano-aggregation to its advantage in order to strategically use it to develop highly functional stimuli-responsive drug delivery systems. By designing molecules that exploit their tendency to self-assemble, and combining them with clever chemical agents, the team has shown promise for developing selective therapies that respond to the unique micro-environment of cancer cells.

“This is an important result in solving the problem of small molecule aggregation, which will open up new avenues for the development of future drug delivery platforms,” said Prof. NIMSE SATISH. “We will continue to investigate the application of nano-aggregates to other compounds.”
