Hallym University Launches Climate Change Convergence Major to develop experts in Climate Change


□ Hallym has established a Global Climate Change Convergence Major (the first such undergraduate program in Korea).

□ The major is led by Professor Seungdo Kim, Department of Environmental Biotechnology, who is also Head of  the Climate Change Research Center at Hallym University and Head of UNFCCC (Climate Change Convention) GHG Inventory Review Team of National Reports in Advanced Countries. 

□ The Climate Change Convergence Major is the first in Korea to offer its curriculum to undergraduate students. The news was announced by Hallym University President Choongsoo Kim. President Kim stated the urgent need to develop convergent professionals in the field of Climate Change, both at home and abroad. 

□ Climate change is recognized worldwide as the most significant challenge threatening the survival of humankind. 

Korea has a long-term national goal being carbon neutral by 2050.

□ Hallym University students and freshmen can complete the Climate Change Convergence Major as a double major during their undergraduate studies.

The Climate Change Convergence Major consists of a Climate Change Policy course that develops students’ abilities in responding to Climate Change and a Greenhouse Gas Management Course in which students’ learn about GHG reduction. 

Students can also complete specialized courses for their individual needs, based on their future career goals.
□ Hallym University has been leading education and research on Climate Change in Korea under the guidance of Professor Seungdo Kim.
