Hallym University held the opening ceremony of the Cerebrovascular Disease Research Center (designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT)

Selected for the '2022 Regional Innovation Leading Research Center (RLRC) designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT' – The project will be carried out with approximately 16.1 Billion Won investment from 2022 to 2029.

□ Hallym University held an opening ceremony for the Cerebrovascular Disease Research Center at the University-Industry-Academic Cooperation Building on Wednesday 21st September, 2022.

□ The project, which was selected as the representative of Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Gangwon regions (under the theme of artificial intelligence / digital health care) is supported by a total of 10.42 billion won over 7 years, including 1.125 billion won in government contributions in the first year, and Gangwon-do, Chuncheon - si, and districts. The large-scale project will see a total investment of 16.14 billion won including corporate matching money.

□ In the case of the Regional Innovation Leading Research Center project, one university per region was selected as the host institution to conduct research.

□ In the Cerebrovascular Disease Research Center, universities, hospitals, companies, and domestic and foreign cooperative institutions will participate together and office and Open Lab facilities will be provided to support collaborative activities, such as talent cultivation and business development. There are dedicated spaces for artificial intelligence / digital healthcare research, such as AI RPSS Lab and AI CDSS Lab.

□ For the project Electronic Medical Record (EMR), based on vast medical data such as genome data, clinical trial data, medical image data, and bio signals, will be created and utilized to realize personalized digital health care and to establish a cerebrovascular disease life cycle management system.

 □ A total of two phases were set with the goal of 'complete development and spread of the cerebrovascular disease life cycle management platform' as the final goal.

Research Phase 1
 (2022 ~ 2026)

- Development of digital medical system / artificial intelligence algorithm for full cycle management of cerebrovascular disease.
- Construction of integrated database (DB) and clinical research.

Research Phase 2
 (2026 ~ 2029)

- Advancement of integrated platform for cerebrovascular disease life cycle management.
- Advancement of AI framework through prospective clinical research.
- Clinical research and verification for platform expansion.

□ The utilization plan and anticipated effects according to the research goals of the center are as follows:

▶ Cerebrovascular disease 'prevention - treatment - prevention of recurrence' by establishing a full-cycle management system for cerebrovascular diseases.

▶ As a standardized digital health platform source technology using artificial intelligence that can assist clinicians with temporal and spatial limitations, (it will contribute to resolving medical inequality in the region), will be absorbed in the domestic health platform market and commercialized overseas.

▶ Activation of digital health business by spreading the original technology developed by performing the function of a regional-based global artificial intelligence digital health platform leading research center through regional exchange research and inducing start-up companies throughout the process.

▶ Promotion of industrialization joint research and inducing innovation with industries related to the development of medical AI-based intelligent telemedicine technology and digital therapeutics in the region as a cooperative base for Artificial Intelligence and Medical Big Data.

▶ Securing digital biomarker source technology for diagnosis, prediction and management (specialized for cerebrovascular disease and technology transfer).

▶ Developing global competitiveness in cerebrovascular disease medical market by harnessing technology based on patient-wide data integration and personalized artificial intelligence.

▶ Attract digital biomarker source technology and artificial intelligence digital health platform-based research institutes/company in connection with the AI specialized company development project.

▶ Development of intelligent telemedicine technology and digital treatment.

▶ Training of convergence experts specialized in research on the establishment of an intelligent telemedicine system.

About 20 domestic and international guests, including Hallym University President Choi Yanghee, Gangwon-do Governor Kim Jin-tae, and Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Dong-han, attended the opening ceremony.

□ Hallym President Choi Yanghee, in his opening speech, said, “ The Cerebrovascular Disease Research Center will become the best AI and Medical Big Data cooperation base thanks to collaboration with leading domestic and international researchers and excellent companies, which will help to resolve medical inequality and improve personalized medical care for society.
